About the book

Fäviken: 4015 Days, Beginning to End is Magnus Nilsson’s personal and candid account of the iconic restaurant Fäviken in northern Sweden – from its humble beginnings to its closure in 2019. The book is both a portrait of a gastronomic phenomenon and a reflection on how food culture developed over the 4,015 days the restaurant existed.
Nilsson shares his journey with an unusual blend of humor, introspection, and professional insight. He describes how Fäviken became a global destination for gastronomy, why he chose to close it at its peak, and what experiences he carried forward.
Language: English
The book includes:
  • 100 memorable recipes from Fäviken’s history
  • A chronological overview of all dishes served over the years
  • Essays on creativity, sustainability, family life, imitation, and originality
  • Thoughts on gastronomy’s role in society, the importance of craftsmanship, and the balance between innovation and tradition
  • Photography from Fäviken’s archive and new shots of food, landscape, and staff
The book serves as both a historical document and a cultural manifesto, in which Nilsson discusses topics such as lagom, social media culture, the ethics of gastronomy, and the future of the industry.
The book’s distinctive design – with a blue cloth spine and a red front cover with a wood texture – directly references Fäviken’s iconic building in Jämtland. The result is a publication that unites aesthetics, reflection, and authenticity.
