Sanshope berries – 20g

22,66

Sold out

Sansho pepper is produced in Japan and harvested south of Kobe in Wakayama Prefecture on Honshu. The spice is known for its fresh, piquant aroma and its characteristic lightly numbing effect on the palate.

The fragrance has notes of menthol, lemongrass, mandarin, and nutmeg. The taste is intense and explosive with distinct notes of lemon, mint, and lemongrass. Like Sichuan pepper, sansho gives a slightly tingling and numbing sensation in the mouth.
The berries are harvested from July to August, before they are fully ripe. After drying, the hard berry is removed so that only the aromatic fruit peel is preserved. The peel is the most aromatic part of the sansho berry and gives the spice its fresh, spicy, and cooling character.
