Les Blanchiens – Parcellaire, Premier Cru, Brut Nature, Vintage

An iconic expression of terroir, family history, and precision – Les Blanchiens is the house’s signature wine and deeply rooted in the family’s DNA. This single-vineyard Champagne from Premier Cru-classified Mareuil-sur-Aÿ comes from the father’s favorite parcel and has since become a benchmark for the house’s other cuvées.
The Les Blanchiens parcel faces south and sits mid-slope in Mareuil at an altitude of 170 meters. The soil is clay-limestone – typical for the area – and lends both breadth and vibrancy to the wines.
Grapes & Blend
This cuvée is a precise 50/50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with each grape variety vinified separately. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in oak barrels of varying age (from new to 10 years old), and the wine is gently stirred during fermentation to add texture and complexity.
Production and aging:
After vinification, the wine is bottled 12–18 months after harvest and sealed with a natural cork. The wine then ages for a full 5 years on the lees (sur lattes), creating depth and finesse. It is disgorged as Brut Nature – with absolutely no dosage – which highlights the wine’s pure expression of terroir.
Tasting experience:
Les Blanchiens shows a fascinating interplay between power and finesse. The nose offers layers of chalk, citrus, yellow fruits, subtle spices, and a light toastiness. The palate is taut yet generous – with minerality, energy, and a long finish that speaks to the chalky subsoil and the concentration of old vines. A vinous and focused expression that impresses.
Peter Liem, author of Champagne: The Essential Guide, describes the experience as “a highlight of every visit to the house – a wine where the place speaks before anything else”.
Production:
Very limited – only 2,500 to 4,000 bottles depending on the vintage.
Serving suggestions:

A natural choice for oysters, shellfish, smoked fish, truffle dishes, or simply enjoyed on its own. Serve at 9–10 °C for optimal precision and aromatic depth.
