Takoyaki is a Japanese specialty that requires precision in both the batterâs consistency and handling at the pan. With the Otafuku Takoyaki set, you achieve the authentic taste and texture professional kitchens expect â a crisp, uniform exterior and a soft, juicy interior.
- Preparation: Chop the squid and spring onions into uniform pieces for even distribution.
- Batter: Whisk water, flour, and eggs into a thin, smooth mixture. The batter should be slightly runny to ensure proper filling of the wells.
- Heating: Heat the takoyaki pan to approx. 200 °C. Brush the wells thoroughly with neutral oil â this is crucial to prevent sticking.
- Fill: Pour batter into the wells to about half height, distribute squid, spring onions, tempura crunch, and ginger, then top up with more batter so the wells are slightly overfilled.
- Rotation: After about 2 minutes, loosen the balls with a skewer and turn them 90 degrees at a time to seal the surface and form a ball. Continue rotating for a further 4 minutes, until the surface is evenly golden.
- Serving: Plate immediately, apply Otafuku sauce in a thin, even layer, and sprinkle with green seaweed.
