2006 Nicolas Francois, Billecart Salmon – Gift box

171,98

In stock

Refined Champagne with delicate notes of lemon zest, white flowers, sage, and a fine, clean minerality.

The blend consists of 60% Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne as well as 40% Chardonnay from Côte des Blancs. The majority is aged in stainless steel tanks, with only a small amount of oak (around 5%). The dosage is 6 grams per liter.
This wonderful Champagne house is based in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ in the heart of Champagne. Founded in 1818 by Nicolas François Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon, it has been family-owned for nearly two centuries. The brothers François and Antoine Roland-Billecart, the sixth generation, continue the success with support from their father Jean Roland-Billecart and an experienced team.
With 100 hectares of their own vineyards and an additional 120 hectares of purchased grapes around Épernay, they create Champagnes of the highest quality. Traditional methods, such as vinification in small Burgundy barrels, are combined with modern techniques such as thermostatically controlled fermentation tanks.
Highlights include the iconic vineyard Clos Saint-Hilaire and impressive Prestige Champagnes. Billecart-Salmon has been recognized globally, and their Cuvée Nicolas Francois Billecart 1959 won first place at a world tasting in Stockholm, while the 1961 vintage achieved second place. This underscores that Billecart-Salmon is world-class and continues to deliver Champagne of exceptional quality based on tradition and history.

“The 2006 Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine, but it needs time to be at its best. I am surprised by how tightly wound it is. But that only makes me think what it might develop into with time in the cellar. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint, crushed rocks and sage meld together in a bright, crystalline Champagne endowed with terrific purity. The 2006 is 60% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne and 40% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, mostly done in steel, with just a touch of oak, around 5%. Dosage is 6 grams per liter”.
