2017 Marguet Les Crayeres

Champagne Benoît Marguet – Les Crayères 2017 (Brut Nature)

A great wine in a small production: Les Crayères 2017 is a parcel cuvée of enormous precision, made exclusively from Chardonnay from the small, iconic Les Crayères plot in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay on the Montagne de Reims. This wine was Marguet’s first single-vineyard Champagne and has since 2008 been a flagship for the house’s biodynamic philosophy and uncompromising expression of terroir.
The nearly two-hectare plot was planted in 1958, 1965 and 1974 and consists of old vines that yield concentrated grapes with low yields. The north–south exposure and the subsoil’s clay-limestone composition give the Champagne its distinctive mineral tension and intensity.
Marguet’s philosophy:
Everything in the vineyard and cellar follows biodynamic principles and lunar phases. The soil is worked gently with the horses Urban and Belle, and all vinification is done by gravity—without pumps—to preserve the wine’s natural energy and balance.
Vinification takes place in oak barrels, and malolactic fermentation is carried out, adding fullness and softness without removing the wine’s freshness. No dosage is added (Brut Nature), and sulfur use is minimal, resulting in an honest and undisturbed rendition of the terroir.
Tasting profile:
Appearance: Clear, pale golden color with fine bubbles
Aroma: Fresh and nuanced with notes of citrus, chalk, green apples and a light toastiness
Palate: Elegant and vibrant, with great minerality, lively acidity, and layers of stone fruit and subtle oak influence. Long, saline finish with energy and precision.
Serving suggestions:
Perfect as an aperitif or with a full meal—especially shellfish, oysters, grilled langoustines, grilled fish or ceviche. Ideally served at around 9 °C.

Production: Only 1,548 bottles were produced of this exceptional vintage—a cuvée for connoisseurs and collectors who want to taste Champagne in its purest and most intense form.
