Othello is the 3rd wine from Dominus. It comes from the Napanook vineyard.
The color is intense and clear, with a dark red hue. The bouquet is pure and seductive, marked by notes of cherry, coffee, blackcurrant and a hint of vanilla. The taste is deep and full-bodied with silky-soft tannins and an elegant finish.
Composed as a classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. All grapes are hand-harvested. The wine is aged for 14 months in oak barrels of French oak.
About Dominus
Christian Moueix’s vision with Othello was to create a wine that reflects the unique terroir from which the grapes originate. In contrast to both Dominus and Napanook, Othello is designed as a wine that is accessible and enjoyable already in its youth.
Dominus Estate is located in Napa Valley, California.
It was almost predestined that Christian Moueix would, at some point, introduce a second wine under the Dominus name in California. This wine became Napanook, first created in 1996 together with winemaker Boris Champy. The aim was to produce a less formal wine that could be enjoyed with pleasure in the early years while also maintaining a connection to the fruit that was previously sold to others.
Christian Moueix believes that wine production begins in the vineyard. Despite the warm and dry microclimate, he insists on following French principles, which closely resemble those practiced by the family at Château Petrus and their other estates. However, with certain variations, including the use of special equipment to clean each grape cluster of dust before harvest, as well as a routine where grapes from the sunny side are picked up to a week before those from the shaded side – a practice rarely seen in Bordeaux.
Upon arrival at the winery, all stems are removed, and the grapes undergo a careful sorting, first using advanced, automated optical equipment and then manually. This ensures that only the perfect grapes make it to the stainless steel tanks. After just a few days, the grape skins and seeds are removed to preserve the character of the red fruit and avoid overly ripe and over-extracted notes.
