About the book

Greece: The Cookbook is the most comprehensive work on modern Greek cooking written in English. It brings together several hundred recipes by Vefa Alexiadou, considered the most influential voice in Greek gastronomy.
The book presents Greek cuisine as the original Mediterranean cuisine – built on olive oil, wine, bread, grapes, figs and cheese, ingredients that have been central since antiquity.
The recipes span the entire Greek culinary universe:
  • Classic dishes with vegetables, fish and lamb
  • Bread, cheeses, soups and stuffed vegetables
  • Desserts, cakes and sweet specialties with honey and nuts
Each recipe is faithful to tradition, yet written so it can easily be made in a modern kitchen. The book also describes regional differences, local ingredients and the cultural significance of many dishes – including their religious and historical roots.
Illustrated with 230 color photographs, the work serves as both a practical reference book and a cultural-historical narrative about the development of Greek cuisine.
Greece: The Cookbook is an indispensable tool for chefs and food enthusiasts who want to understand the authentic Greek food tradition – simple, healthy and full of character.
