Koshihikari rice – short-grain quality from Japan

Koshihikari is one of Japan’s most recognized and popular rice varieties. The short-grain rice is characterized by its glossy, light color, sticky texture, and delicate flavor. The flavor profile is mild and sweet with a nutty aftertaste, making it ideal for a wide range of dishes.
Origin and cultivation
The variety was discovered in 1956 in Niigata Prefecture, an area known for optimal growing conditions for rice cultivation. Here, Koshihikari is grown under carefully controlled conditions with a focus on soil, water, and sunlight—factors that ensure unparalleled quality. Although the variety is also grown in other regions and countries, Niigata rice is considered the finest and most exclusive.
