Polynesian Bora Bora – Vanilla +18cm

From 22,83

From 22,83
Tahiti vanilla from Bora-Bora

This vanilla is of the highest quality, with pods over 18 cm long containing up to 10 times as many vanilla seeds as bourbon vanilla. The aroma is intense, fruity, and deep with notes of caramel, chocolate, prunes, and licorice.
The vanilla is grown at the Bora-Bora plantation on the island of Tahaa in French Polynesia. Established in 1997, the plantation is unique in letting nature govern the entire ripening process. The seed pods are left on the plant until they are fully ripe, unlike industrial production where they are picked unripe and processed artificially. This method enhances the aromas naturally and makes Bora-Bora vanilla truly special.
Characteristics:
  • Tahiti vanilla with +18 cm long pods
  • Up to 10 times more vanilla seeds than bourbon vanilla
  • Intense and fruity aroma with caramel, chocolate, prunes, and licorice
  • Naturally grown at the Bora-Bora plantation, Tahaa
The history of vanilla
Vanilla is now the world’s second most expensive spice—surpassed only by saffron. The price has increased tenfold over the past 7 years and is approaching the value of silver. Vanilla comes from the orchid Vanilla planifolia, which originally could only be pollinated by the Melipona bee in Mexico.

It was not until 1850 that Edmond Albius discovered manual pollination, which made cultivation outside Mexico possible. This method is still used today and is the basis of the world’s vanilla production.
